JANUARY IS A TIME TO GET BUSY

Andersonville Theological Seminary students have a tradition of getting busy doing their studies in January of each year. Many are trying to get back on track after a hectic Christmas season. Others are trying to finish their program studies before April 15th in order to participate in the May 25th graduation ceremony. Whatever your reason, January is a great time to delve into the Word of God. One suggestion is to make a weekly schedule that includes definite times for working on your studies. Students who plan ahead, schedule their study time, and resist letting trivial things interfere with study time make the best progress and accomplish their goals in a more timely manner.

Students who plan to march in the May 25, 2012 graduation need to have all fees paid and all work completed by April 15th. Now is the time to sign up! An “intent to attend” form is located on the website, http://www.andersonvilleseminary.com/, by clicking on the FORMS tab on the bar at the top of the home page. For details about graduation, click on graduation packet #1 and #2 at the same location. You will find cost to attend, nearby motels, regalia information, and much more. We anticipate the largest graduating class ever! Your attendance will help to reach this goal. Sign up today!

*****************************************

KIM SHARES DETAILS FROM HER TRIP TO ROMANIA

My trip to Romania was awesome! It was my first mission trip and my first flight. I was a little nervous about boarding a plane and going to a foreign country, but it all worked out with God’s help. Our objective was to minister to the Gypsy children which come from a rejected part of society in Romania. Gypsies live in filthy, run-down buildings, often without electricity or water. They are infamous for begging and stealing since this seems to be all Gypsies know or are allowed to do because the Romanians shun them and will not hire them.

Our group visited several churches where we presented a Christmas program about the birth of Jesus. Afterwards, we gave out shoeboxes filled with toys and other items for the children. All total, we gave out 2100 shoeboxes. These children receive only this small shoebox for Christmas; yet, they are so happy and excited over the gift. They even get excited about the rubber bands put on the boxes to keep them closed. One little boy cried over losing his rubber band. This was so different from what we encounter in America where children receive so many expensive gifts. When was the last time you saw an American child cry over a lost rubber band?

We learned that children had been left at trash dumpsters because their parents did not want them. Every six months, the director of the orphanages is required to have the parents sign a paper stating they will not give up their parental rights. When the children get old enough to send out to beg and steal, the parents will take them away from the orphanage and put them out on the street to beg and steal.

When we drove into one village, we saw a little boy running around in the snow with no shoes. Later, we were told that many children do not attend school because they do not have enough clothes to wear. The adults and children do have automobiles; therefore, they walk to church. Sometimes the church is three to four miles away and many of the Gypsies do not have shoes, yet the churches are full!

The trip was awesome and enlightening! I hope that one day I will get to go back and give out shoeboxes again in a country that is much different from America.

*****************************************

LETTERS PRAISE THE SEMINARY

Below are two excerpts of letters received recently:

…”When my experience with Andersonville began in late October last year, I was not sure what I would experience. Having been an educator my entire professional life and having served as president of three colleges and now the chancellor of a seven college system, I have some clear views regarding quality education and a quality institution. Andersonville has an exceptional distance education program. Having taught both online, hybrid and in the traditional classroom, the seminary meets all of my standards.”

Wright L. Lassiter, Jr., Dallas, TX

…”We spent almost a year researching schools and seminaries and were lead to Andersonville. I was impressed that The Republic of South Korea recognizes degrees from Andersonville. One of our daughters taught English there and remarked that they are very strict with their academic standards.

ATS JACKETS ARE STUNNING

The new ATS jackets are a popular item for sale and the feedback is showing satisfied customers. Actually, the jackets are really good-looking and the quality is outstanding. Available in an assortment of colors, the jacket pulls over the head but has side zippers for easy pull on and off. To see the jacket in red or purple, click on the link below.

HE’LL MOVE YOUR MOUNTAINS

It’s faith that moves mountains

It’s faith that will please

Our Father in heaven

Who witnesses these:

A child that will love Him

Who prays ev’ry day.

A father, a mother

Who teach God’s true way.

A tongue that will speak truth

A heart that is right.

A longing to serve Him

With all of our might.

Faith is the victory

The old Hymns proclaim.

Our God has moved mountains

And He’s still the same.

The God of the Bible

Moves mountains today.

For those who will trust Him

And humbly obey.

He will move your mountain.

He will part the sea.

He’ll answer from heaven.

Providing your need.

He cares for His children

And He hears their cry.

Our Father of mercy

No doubt, will supply.

So don’t get discouraged

And keep to the test.

Tell Jesus your problem

And He’ll do what’s best.

*****************************************

Not found on TV (Food for thought)

A SIGN OF THE TIMES

They lie on the table, side by side The Holy Bible and the TV Guide.

One is well worn, but cherished with pride (Not the Bible, but the TV Guide)

One is used daily to help folks decide. (Not the Bible: it’s the TV Guide.)

As the pages are turned, what shall they see Oh, what does it matter?…turn on the TV.

Then confusion reigns, they can’t all agree on what they shall watch on the old TV.

So they open the book in which they confide (No, not the Bible…..it’s the TV Guide.)

The Word of God is seldom read. Maybe a verse e’er they fall into bed.

Exhausted and sleepy and tired as can be… not from reading the Bible-from watching TV.

So then back to the table, side by side, lay the Holy Bible and the TV Guide.

No time for prayer….no time for the Word. The plan of salvation is seldom heard.

But forgiveness of sin so full and free is found in the Bible…..NOT on TV!

OUR GIFTS ARE FOR ENCOURAGING (poem)

Help us Lord to see ourselves

Through your loving eyes

To see what you see in us

And to come to realize

That everything that we possess

Comes directly from you

The gifts, the talents you’ve placed within

Are there for us to use

To reach with hope to those that hurt

To those who’ve lost their way

It’s your gifts Lord, they’re not our own

So take them Lord we pray

And use them for your glory

So others may be blessed

And have their spirits lifted

And their souls also refreshed

So they can then be challenged

To seek more after you

To be much more empowered

For what ever they may do

For each of us have talents

That God has placed within

So we can encourage others

To have a closer walk with Him

And as we encourage another

We can be encouraged ourselves

For there needs to be a continual flow

And a continual pouring out

And as we do this we will find

Insecurities will disappear

And we’ll be strengthened in His love

To overcome our fears.

FORMER COUNSELING STUDENT

WRITES DELIGHTFUL BOOK

Have you ever made the statement that you should write a book? Has anyone told you that your stories are so interesting that you should put them in a book? Well, that is exactly what Terry Crague heard from friends and family over the years. As a result, he decided to follow through and write a collection of stories that are very encouraging and delightful. Some are sad, some are happy, and some are just stories about life with insight on how to live it. All are tied in to the Gospel message or encouraging the Christian to live the abundant life.

Terry Crague resides in Aurora, Illinois and is a former student of Andersonville Theological Seminary. He earned his Doctorate of Christian Counseling from the seminary and was licensed by the National Christian Counselor’s Association. He and his wife have four grown children. The Crague’s also had one little boy who has gone to be with the Lord, and Terry tells the story of what he and his wife experienced when they suddenly lost the child. One day they were buying the child’s Christmas presents and the next day they were picking out his casket. How could they get through this? Terry tells the reader in his own words how they were able to go on with their lives.

If you would like to purchase the book, you can locate it on Amazon.

Kim Fenn, staff member at the seminary, is planning to go on a mission trip to Romania on December 15th through the 23rd. She will be going along with 11 people from her home church, Union Grove Baptist Church. The group will be visiting an orphanage and will be presenting the Christmas story in the form of a play twice a day. The church has also been participating in Operation Christmas Child and will present a shoe box filled with gifts for a boy or girl to each child. Kim is really excited and promises to take pictures and give us a report when she returns.
